For some offices security is a top priority, while for others it is of less significance. In mindSCOPE you can configure your security settings to reflect its importance in your office and how freely information, and access to it, flows.

Encrypt/Decrypt Database

While you can prevent users from accessing the database within mindSCOPE through user ID's and passwords, this does not prevent a user from accessing the database outside of mindSCOPE (e.g. MS Access). To prevent use of the database From outside of mindSCOPE you must encrypt it. If your security needs change at a later date you can always decrypt an encrypted database.

Encrypt the Database

When you encrypt the database mindSCOPE will log you out of the server and the database so that it can encrypt the data without interference from you.

Note: No other users can be on the system during this process. You can check if there are any other consultants accessing the database with Online Activity. mindSCOPE will ask you if you wish to continue:

1. Once you click "Yes"
1. From the Menu Bar click on Admin.
2. Arrow down to Security, then over and down to Encrypt/Decrypt Database.
3. Click on it.

mindSCOPE will encrypt the database. When mindSCOPE is finished it will pop up this dialogue box.

Your database is now encrypted.

Note: As the dialogue box warns you, any backup copies of the database made before it was encrypted are not secure. You should either move or delete these non-secure copies. Since mindSCOPE has exited you from the database in order to encrypt it you will need to log in again to re-access the now-encrypted database.

Decrypt the Database

When you decrypt the database mindSCOPE will log you out of the server and the database so that it can decrypt the data without interference from you.

Note: No other users can be on the system during this process. You can check if there are any other consultants accessing the database with Online Activity.

mindSCOPE will ask you if you wish to decrypt the database:

1. Click OK.

mindSCOPE will decrypt the database. When mindSCOPE is finished it will pop up this dialogue box. Your database is now decrypted.

Since mindSCOPE has exited you from the database so that it could decrypt it you will need to log in again to re-access the now-decrypted database.
